Queensland Hikes

The In-Betweens

Since Australia is so large, driving from one territory to another has many cool stops on the way. Below are a few pit stops with my friend Allana in our many adventures of the in-betweens from QLD to NSW.

One of the first things I noticed about Australia is that they have so many rocks! Literally everywhere, from rugged cliffside to the white sand shorelines, but this is what has assisted in keeping Australia so new since sailors could not find a way onto the island. Goldy’s coastline may be rocky but it is also surrounded by many long, empty, white sand beaches. I recommend stepping away from crowded surfers paradise and getting in a nice surf in Currumbin or if you’re really good or want to watch the pros, head to Burleigh or Snapper. For a more relaxed stroll and swim, head ova to Nobbys or Miami. If you so happen to be interested in looking into possible colleges, there is Griffith and Bond University. I’ve attended Bond University and been to Griffith’s campus. Bond is a beautiful campus, I recommend visiting Griffith’s campus in Brisbane.

Burleigh

Burleigh Heads is a great destination for cute shops, delicious food, beach days, nice strolls, beautiful sunsets and good surf. Whether bussing or driving, everything is on the most part convenient walking distance. Insanely delicious food with captivating views.
Few great food places:
Pizza: Tom Uglys and Justin Lane
Best Vegetarian I’ve ever had: Govindas
Fancy Dinner: Fish Heads or Rick Shores
Brekky and Coffee: Burleigh Social
Coffee on the go: Nook Espresso Bar

Post surf:
The Salt Mill for Acai bowls! They also serve coffee, juices, and fresh pastries
If you’re an acai bowl lover like I am, Down 2 Earth organics has by far my favourite acai bowls on the Gold Coast.

Miami

MIAMI MARKETTA
Every Friday and Saturday evening from 5-11pm
Go if you are looking to be overwhelmed by a variety of talented local venders.

Paddock Bakery
Keep in mind it is a very popular spot so go early or on a weekday if you’re looking for a good seat because the atmosphere is too lovely to take to go.

Mermaid Beach Cafes:
Bam Bam Bakehouse
The Yard Cafe

Blackboard Cafe

It’s an addiction.
Best coffee
Best chais
Best chips
Best muesli
Best baked goods
This place was a delicious problem I lived too close to. Don’t get me started on the customer service, the employees are simply delightful! With their bubbly, real, friendly attitude making your blackboard experience more lovely.
If you’re in Robina looking for a nice cafe, you cannot go wrong heading to blackboard. You could even head to their take away bar, grab a pastry and coffee to go and walk along lake side right across the street. So good, it’s bad!

Wandering Cooks

So grateful I was not only gifted the opportunity to taste all of Sarah’s food but I was able to spend time working under this incredible individual. Learning her skill, hard work, passion, and overall love for this business she has started from her kitchen.

Cinnamon Buns

Specializing in her Cinnamon buns, Sarah’s buns are utterly addicting. From flavors like nutella to pecan to coconut. She even does a suprisingly delicious maple bacon with bacon bits on top. If you live in the area, support local and get yourself a fresh batch, they are too good not to resist.

Wandering Cooks

Located on the West End of Brisbane, Sarah’s events at wandering cooks give her the opportunity to make whatever it is she would like, letting her creative juices flow. Never know what to expect out of her but you can expect whatever that may be to be delicious. From sweet to savory, it truly is nothing but perfection.
I recommend checking out her instagram, these photos do NO justice to the work she does regularly.

Where to even begin?! You must of course have a taste of our local food. Get to a good luau to try haupia (coconut dessert), lau lau, poi (taro), and of course kalua pig (specially made in an imu, where the entire pig is steamed underground covered by banana leaves). Coming to Hawai‘i you must also try more of our local heartburn foods like loco moco (rice, hamburger patty, egg, and gravy) and spam musubi (rice, spam, teriyaki sauce, furikake, wrapped in seaweed). Hawai‘i is such a melting pot ofcultures. Our food is very islander but also includes many fusions of different cultures, especially asian influence.

Malasadas: Hawaiian or Portuguese doughnut

To the far left Arielle and I swung by the local farmers market to get ourselves a bag of fresh hot malasadas. My favourite are coconut custard filled that you can get from Leonard’s bakery, which is open 24/7! Talk about a great midnight snack!

Below this image to the left is San Diego’s, Summer, biting into Leonard’s East Side food truck chocolate dobash filled li hing mui malasada.

Absolutely love being able to meet the incedible people I have met on my journeys and being able guide these eager, happy people around spots like Hawai‘i!

Place to Stay

Looking for a place to stay on Kaua’i?

Being one who loves to find new places and explore the unknown, I will always recommend experiencing the place you are traveling to. This means getting out of the resort. Staying in a resort is great and a warm luxury but try to experience the local lifestyle. This ends up saving quite a lot of money as well if you are looking to stay somewhere longer or looking to go with family or a group of people.

If visiting the island of Kaua’i, here is a link to a lovely vacation rental on the north shore minutes to some of my most favourite places in the world!

Book
Absolutely love outdoor shower next to the little garden, the location, and the beauty and comfort of the interior.
